The West Islip Soccer Club would like to share an important and exciting update with our soccer family.
After many years of dedicated service, Mike Reilly has decided to step down from his role as Director of Coaches. We want to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Mike for his leadership, commitment, and countless hours devoted to our players, coaches, and families. His impact on West Islip Soccer will be felt for years to come, and we are truly grateful for everything he has done to help build and grow our club.
As we thank Mike for his years of service, we are thrilled and incredibly excited to announce that Glenn Koelbl will be stepping into the role of Director of Coaches for West Islip Soccer. Mike wrote a Thank You to all. Unfortunately, it can not be attached to this blast, so we asked that it be posted on the website in the morning.
JOIN US in WELCOMING GLENN
Glenn has been a staple of the West Islip Soccer community for the past eight years, serving as a coach, trainer and as the Girls Technical Director for NLSA. Anyone who has spent time around our fields knows the amount of time, passion, and energy Glenn has poured into helping players improve day in and day out. His enthusiasm for the game, commitment to player development, and willingness to work with athletes of all levels truly set him apart.
Glenn has trained select teams both within and outside the club and currently works with players ranging from U9 through U17. He also serves as the NLSA Indoor Clinics Co-Director, Girls U9–U12 Technical Director, and goalkeeper trainer for West Islip Soccer. At the collegiate level, Coach Glenn was the Assistant Coach and Head Goalkeeper Coach for the nationally ranked Suffolk County Community College Men’s Soccer Team.
Coach Glenn brings some of the highest-level coaching credentials available, including a UEFA “C” License, USSF “B” License Candidate status, and the United Soccer Coaches Premier Level License. He continues to push himself and our club forward by pursuing additional education and development opportunities, including earning his Talent ID License through the Scottish FA. Glenn also earned the prestigious Masters of Coaching Diploma through the University of Delaware and United Soccer Coaches Association, which included time training in Scotland alongside professional teams and coaches and culminated in earning his UEFA “C” License.
In addition, Glenn has spent time with S.L. Benfica in Portugal learning the club’s systems, methodologies, and player development processes from a full-club perspective. These experiences continue to shape his vision for creating a positive, modern, and player-centered environment within West Islip Soccer.
As a Long Island native, Coach Koelbl understands the local soccer landscape and what it takes to help players and teams reach their goals — whether that means continuing development locally, competing at the collegiate level, or pursuing opportunities within the professional game.
Looking ahead, Glenn is already hard at work helping reshape and strengthen what we do as a club. He has been actively collaborating with the West Islip Soccer Board to enhance our programs, expand development opportunities, and continue moving the club forward in a positive direction. Plans are already underway to provide additional technical training sessions, expanded goalkeeper-specific training, and new development pathways for players seeking higher-level opportunities, including the launch of an EDP group for interested U9 and U10 players.
Just as importantly, Glenn believes in building strong relationships throughout the club. He wants players, parents, and coaches to feel connected, supported, and heard. Open communication, transparency, and a commitment to continuous improvement will remain priorities as we continue to grow together as a soccer community.
We also want to be open and honest with our families. Like any organization, there are always areas where we can improve, and we are committed to continuing to raise the standard across all programs. To help accomplish that, the club is already exploring additional training partnerships and resources that will further strengthen player development and coaching support throughout the organization.
If at any point families feel the need to explore other options, we simply ask that you take the opportunity to speak with Glenn first. Introduce yourself, share your experiences, and have a conversation. Glenn genuinely wants to hear feedback from players, parents, and coaches about what we do well and where we can continue improving as a club.
While pricing can sometimes be misleading when comparing programs, West Islip Soccer continues to provide tremendous value, development, and opportunity at a very reasonable cost. Our focus remains on creating a positive environment where players can develop, compete, and grow while keeping soccer accessible for families in our community.
