The West Islip Soccer Club was founded in 1976, as a volunteer non-profit organization. At that time there were only a handful of teams. Now we have over 1,000 families and 1,500 soccer players. We play at the Manetuck Elementary School & Udall Rd Middle School fields (they intersect) on Saturdays and a few Sundays. The club continues to operate as a volunteer organization and is made up of several divisions as described below.

Intramural Game Dates
When
Most clubs schedule 8-9 games during the season. West Islip Soccer Club schedules 10, so that if there’s a rain out, you’ll still have 8-9 games. Our intramural schedules are created once the travel leagues post their schedules, to avoid schedule conflicts for some of our intramural coaches who also coach a travel team. The travel league usually posts their schedule in early September for the fall season and in early March for the spring season.

Age Groups
What Division Does My Child Play In?
Divisions are determined strictly by date of birth based on the school district birth dates. We are unable to move a child from one division to the next regardless of physical size or ability without risking the loss of our sanctioning and insurance by the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL).
An age group is expressed starting with the letter B (for Boys) or G (for Girls), followed by the letter U (for Under) and then the age. So BU6, means Boys Under 6 years of age as of the end of the year when the soccer year started.

Who Will My Coach Be and Can I Request a Specific Coach?
Coaching positions are not filled until registration has been completed. Coaches are chosen on the basis of volunteerism and past club affiliation. Once the coaching staff has been chosen, teams are created. Teams are created by distributing the players based on the number of seasons played. We try to maintain balance throughout the club and therefore do not “stack” or create “neighborhood” teams.
Co-Ed
U5
Players Under 5 (U5) start in our co-ed U5 division. Sessions will focus on basic soccer skills like dribbling, passing, and shooting using creative and engaging games. A positive character trait will be highlighted during each session such as respect and teamwork. Coaches will set up developmentally appropriate 5v5 scrimmages on a micro-soccer field for 30 minutes. Games are about learning to kick the ball, not using their hands, working on their skills such as control, dribbling and changing speed, and have fun doing it. Players will be working twards independece on the field. Games are played at the Manetuck/Udall fields on Saturdays, with occasionally a Sunday game. Training sessions are held during the week and will vary from coach/team to coach/team.
Boys & Girls
U6
Players Under 6 (U6) also play micro-soccer, but move up to the U6 division. Here the kids learn a bit more about the game, while starting to work together. There is a separate boys division and a separate girls division. All games are played at the Manetuck fields on Saturdays, with occasionally a Sunday game. Practices are during the week and will vary from team to team (depending on the coach’s availability). | |
Boys & Girls
U7
The U7 age groups starts kids in team soccer, on bigger fields, drilling skills, and learning positions. For the first time, a goalkeeper to protect the goal is introduced. The division consists of players who are respectively under 7 years old as of January 1st during that soccer year. There are separate divisions for the Girls and Boys teams. All games are played at the Manetuck fields, on Saturdays, with occasionally a Sunday game. Practices are held during the week and will vary from coach/team to coach/team.
Boys & Girls
U8 & U9
U8 and U9 players play together in the U8/9 division. The games are played on field sizes that are 40% of the full-size fields, with goals 40% of the full-size goals. There is a separate Boys Division and Girls Division. All games are played at the Manetuck fields, on Saturdays, with occasionally a Friday evening and/or Sunday game. Practices are during the week and will vary from coach/team to coach/team.
